An original 125cc small frame Vespa (such as a Primavera or PK) originally uses a primary gear ratio in the transmission of 24/61 (2.54).
Therefore, the 29/68 (2.34) is already significantly longer and also only in very few Motore also really usable. This is due to the power required to overcome the air resistance, which increases more and more with increasing speed. Since this increases in the square, i.e. double speed means four times the air resistance. A smallframe engine can deliver a lot of power with the appropriate tuning, but of course it no longer does so at the level of a series engine. Often the full power is only available at well over 8000 rpm.
That is, he would already be much faster even with the standard gear ratio, because he can turn out much further. On the other hand a strong engine has the full power only in the upper speed range, in the speed cellar this is usually missing.
If you extend the final ratio of such an engine so drastically as with a 29/68 (2.34) primary, this often causes problems with the gear connection in the upper gears or it can happen that the engine in fourth gear can not reach its full speed at all because it is slowed down by the driving resistance and can not reach the speed range of full power.

This can be useful if, for example, an extremely short-ratio gearbox is used with the help of the so-called matrix auxiliary shaft and the 47-tooth Parma 4th gear. In this case, the ratio of the matrix auxiliary shaft and the Parma gear wheel would result in a secondary transmission ratio of 18/47 (2.61). In combination with a primary with 29/68 (2.34) which was changed to 30/68 (2.26) with the help of the DRT 30 tooth sprocket, this would result in a total gear ratio that would correspond to a length as would be achieved in combination with a standard gearbox and 29/68 (2.34) primary.
Now, however, with the huge advantage of the closely spaced gear jumps, due to the matrix auxiliary shaft with Parma pinion. So the chance that an engine can really pull such a long gear increases considerably, because it no longer falls out of the so-called resonance range, in which the exhaust fully supports the engine.
