The original gearbox of the 125cc Piaggio/Gilera 2-stroke models is intentionally designed very short. Usually used as city cars, they benefit from a short gear reduction and make life difficult at every traffic light start, even for much larger cars. For a high top speed, however, the original transmission is clearly too short, especially in combination with a larger cylinder. With a larger cylinder you can reach 15 to 20 km/h and more without overloading the engine by too high revs. In general one can say that with the 15/41 reduction the gearbox is approx. 20% longer than with the standard gearbox (only on the standard short reduction Hexagon LX models is the engine after the conversion to the 15/41 gearbox already approx. 28% longer).
MAIN SHAFT:
This gearbox is only suitable for motors with a splined main shaft. Here the large pinion is pushed onto the gear-side toothing of the rear wheel axle and secured with a circlip.
MOTOR SHAFT:
The small auxiliary shaft connected in front of it must be pressed over. To do this, press the original pinion off the original auxiliary shaft and press it onto the new Malossi auxiliary shaft. This can be done with a sufficiently dimensioned vice. However, a stationary press is much more comfortable and gentle on the material. Breakaway power between 2-3 tons.
Only suitable for the second generation 125cc engines like Runner 125, Skipper125, Hexagon LX125, Italjet Dragster 125. Not suitable for SKR125/150, TPH125, EX125/150!
Note: This gearbox is almost identical to Malossi item M678657. However, the large gear wheel for the main shaft is considerably wider on the gear offered here (M679614) and therefore only suitable for the gear units of the Gilera Runner 125, Italjet Dragster 125 and Hexagon LX125 models.
