The original gearbox of the 125cc Piaggio/Gilera 2-stroke models is intentionally designed very short. Usually used as city cars, they benefit from a short gear reduction and make life difficult at every traffic light start, even for much larger cars. For a high top speed, however, the original transmission is clearly too short, especially in combination with a larger cylinder. With a larger cylinder you can reach 15 to 20 km/h and more without overloading the engine by too high revs. In general one can say that with the 15/41 reduction the gearbox is approx. 20% longer than with the standard gearbox (only on the standard short reduction Hexagon LX models the engine is already approx. 28% longer reduction).
