OEM-QUALITY
brake drum in very good quality. A fine cast aluminium, which has already proven its racing suitability, makes this drum our favourite. Unbeatable in price, performance AND quality! The brake drum studs are cast-in.
LML
original LML brake drums, manufactured for the Indian licensed buildings of PX. Good and cheap replacement for the often very expensive original parts. Has a diameter at the shaft seal running surface of 30mm. The drum can therefore be used on PX and T5 models built from 1984 onwards. The brake drum studs are cast-in.
FA ITALIA
brake drums Made in Italy. For normal loads, as occurring with standard vehicles, a good and cheap solution for everyday use. For racing or very powerful engines we recommend the OEM QUALITY brake drums. The brake drum studs are cast-in.
PIAGGIO
Piaggio delivers again and again rear brake drums from changing production, partly in, for Piaggio conditions, unfortunately inferior quality. The drum does not have a ground shaft sealing ring surface and can only be used with a felt ring. The brake drum studs are cast-in.
Background knowledge:
With the introduction of the Vespa GL around 1962 a new type of brake drum for the rear wheel shaft was established, which is still used today in almost the same design. With the exception of the GS160/SS180 and COSA models, this drum type was installed in all Vespa scooters from 1962 on with horizontal cylinder (Vespa Largeframe).
The continuously increasing flange diameter (from Ø27 to Ø31.5mm) allows a much more stable brake drum flange. The models with only Ø27mm tend to expand quickly if the tightening torque was too low. A spread brake drum flange can be recognized by a rear wheel that keeps loosening, despite a correctly tightened rear wheel nut. In this case only a timely replacement of the brake drum can help, otherwise the toothing of the main shaft is affected and must also be replaced. For stability reasons it is always recommended to change to a drum with at least 30mm flange diameter.
UPGRADE old to new (27 > 30/31,5mm): The more stable drum of the PX Lusso models from 1984-1988 can also be used on the older years of manufacture with Ø27mm drum, provided that the shaft seal ring of the Lusso models with Ø30mm and the washer of the models from 1984 onwards are also used there. With a fully enclosed rear wheel bearing (6204 2RS) a brake drum of the models from 1988 up (with Ø31,5mm felt ring) can also be used without a shaft seal. here please check the bearing for tightness in regular intervals.
DOWNGRADE new to old (31,5 > 30mm): The newest type (1988-today) has no ground running surface and is therefore unsuitable for the combination with a shaft seal. The Lusso drum from 1984-1988 can also be used here and converted to a conventional shaft seal. If the internal shaft sealing ring is omitted here, make sure to close the drip hole in the housing.
