The locking system of the modern Vespa models includes an effective theft protection.
This consists of a control unit, master key (brown), slave key (black) and code card.
NOTE: If the vehicle keys are no longer available, the control unit must be replaced. This is programmed (burned in) once by the master key to the code it contains. The control unit can then no longer be reprogrammed!
However, in some vehicles (250-300cc) this is a unit with the throttle control. Therefore the costs for a repair are disproportionately high*. Therefore always lock away at least one key (masterkey) very well. The master key is capable of relearning duplicate keys. This means that any number of duplicate keys can be created with it.
The master key of this lock set can therefore only be used in combination with a new control unit.
If the original master key is still available, its internal chip (RFID) can be installed in the new key.
Some specialized companies are able to read out the existing control unit and transfer the code to a new key. Please search Google for "clone vespa key".

Code card
The code card contains only the mechanical characteristics of the key to reproduce one (contours of the slotted track).
The CODECARD does not contain the electronic transponder code.
Control unit
The control unit, which is permanently installed in the vehicle, receives signals from the key (via the transponder which is placed around the ignition lock inside the vehicle). If the signal code of the key is correct, the control unit releases the ignition.
Black/blue key (slavekey)
The black or blue key is the actual ignition key and has all the information for the control unit. With a duplicate key, you can initially only operate the ignition lock and unlock the mechanical steering lock. In order to deactivate the immobilizer and start the scooter, you have to program this key using the red key. This is done using the brown masterkey.
Brown key (masterkey)
The thick brown key is the so-called masterkey. It contains the CODE that matches the CDI. The ignition control unit and the keys communicate wirelessly with each other.
The master key can pass on its information to the 'normal' black key (so-called teach-in). The master key is the central element of the anti-theft system. If it is lost, a new control unit must be installed.
