Lambretta Junior
In 1964 Innocenti introduced a whole new scooter family with the Junior range. The simple and lightweight construction of the scooters should allow for lower prices and therefore appeal to new groups of customers.
The construction bears some similarities to Piaggio scooters by using a monocoque chassis. Also the access to the carburettor under a small plastic toolbox under the seat is similar to the smallframe Vespas. The engine however is placed centrally in the chassis and constructed along the lines of the larger LI series, even if the cylinder sits upright instead of lying horizontally. Depending on the model, a dual seat, a single seat or two single seats were fitted.
The engine is covered by side panels, which had external handles on most models. Most rubber parts were coloured grey, apart from the kickstart rubber and the stand feet, which came in black colour.
J125 Starstream & Super Starstream
From May 1966 the J 125 was marketed as a facelifted version called J 125 Starstream. It received narrower legshields, a new seat and the new “Stellina” badge. The engine is nearly the same as the J 125's, but now features a four-speed gearbox.
A special version of the Starstream was produced for the British market only, called the Super Starstream. It featured a newly cast horncasting plus a unique turning front mudguard and came with a two-tone paint scheme with white as a base and blue or red horncasting and panels.
Thanks to the new four-speed gearbox, the Starstream and Super Starstream accelerated much faster than their predecessor and reached a healthy 87 kph top speed. Production of the Starstream and Super Starstream models was halted in April 1966.
