QUALITY VAPE
VAPE ignition is a modern ignition system including alternator. Completely made in Europe (Czech Republic) from high quality materials, every single ignition is 100% function tested. The resulting reliability is legendary, which also makes it ideal for performance engines. VAPE ignitions are already firmly established for decades in the moped / motorcycle sector and especially in the Simson range can no longer be imagined without.
CONVERSION CONTACT IGNITION
The VAPE replaces the complete contact ignition 100% and brings at the same time a modern and powerful 12Volt alternator. The strong permanent magnets of the one-piece pole wheel allow a high ignition current even at low engine speeds as well as a bright light at idle. The engine thus starts much better, as the high ignition current also easily compensates for increased resistance (e.g. an oily spark plug or too much gasoline in the crankcase).
Another advantage of the VAPE is its insensitivity to the lateral offset of the crankshaft in the engine block. The older engines (Wideframe as well as VBA/VBB, Sprint, GT, GTR, Super etc.) use a 'flying' bearing of the crankshaft. Here it can happen that the crankshaft moves several tenths of a millimeter under load. For the VAPE ignition this is not a problem because it does not use triggering of the ignition by aligned trigger surfaces in the pole wheel. The significantly higher light output, even at low speeds, gives an additional thick safety plus in road traffic. In addition, the ignition is forever maintenance-free.
Never again adjust contacts, never again replace a capacitor. Simply drive, then when you want.
UPGRADE PK/PX
Who wants to give the engine electrics of his PX or PK an upgrade is also well advised with the VAPE ignition. Especially the older PX models still have separate coils for the battery charge and the light circuit. Therefore, only a 25/25Watt bulb can be used here in the headlight. The conversion to a VAPE brings here massively more power output and it can easily be used strong 60/55 watt halogen bulbs or alternatively chargers for cell phone and Co. Likewise, the flywheel including the pole wheel is lighter and perfectly balanced. An important factor in the field of engine tuning.
WIRINGHUMB
Formerly contact-controlled ignitions should be converted to a new wiring harness for various reasons. In most cases, the old wiring harness is already deteriorated and has increased resistance due to corroded copper wires. In addition, the original wiring harness on older vehicles (with formerly self-regulating electrics) is not suitable for a voltage supply via a central cable. Of course, we carry suitable conversion wiring harnesses in our store. These are also very easy to connect and perfectly complement the conversion to a new electrical system.
AC/DC?
All Vespa alternators are designed ex works for a so-called AC (alternating current) power supply. As soon as the engine is running, current is generated and directly transmitted to the consumers (lamps). Our VAPE ignition is also delivered as AC system. However, it can be converted to a so-called DC (direct current) system by simply replacing the voltage regulator (the stator is 'floating' and only becomes DC or AC by wiring). In this case, all the current from the alternator is fed to a battery via a so-called full-wave regulator. This supplies all consumers (lamps, horn, turn signals etc.). The advantage is that a power supply is available even without the engine running.
IGNITION ADJUSTMENT?
The VAPE ignition is supplied by us with a CDI with so-called static ignition timing. In contrast to the four-stroke, two-strokes do not require dynamic adjustment due to the gas dynamic effects in the combustion chamber. The required ignition angle remains almost linear, despite increasing engine speed, due to the mixture burning through faster and faster. Only absolute racing engines, whose usable speed range only begins above 6000 rpm, may benefit from an adjustment. For almost all scooter engines operated on the road, however, a dynamic ignition timing is rather disadvantageous. The high ignition angle in the lower range makes the engine run rough and out of round, the ignition angle decreasing with increasing engine speed is often rather performance reducing. For these reasons we use a CDI with static ignition timing. This harmonizes perfectly with series engines as well as strongly performance-increased engines. Our VAPE ignition can of course be equipped with a dynamically adjusting CDI.
MOUNTING / IGNITION SETTING
A great feature of our VAPE ignition is the fact that it is set without the so-called 'flash off', so without strobe light. The VAPE conversion ignition system is therefore easy to install and can be mounted without special tools. The installation is therefore no problem at all, even for technically experienced laymen, thanks to our supplied installation instructions (in printed form).
PoleWheel/Fan Wheel
The VAPE ignition always has the same pole wheel (starting from the respective cone matched to the engine, including installation height). It has, as in the original, only one groove for positioning on the crankshaft. A wrong assembly is therefore impossible. The flywheel mass matching the engine concept is produced via the impeller. This has the advantage that the flywheel mass can only be changed by exchanging the impeller. The impeller we deliver is CNC machined from solid aluminum. It fits perfectly to the respective engine type and has an optimized wing geometry. This guarantees the maximum cooling capacity with the best performance. Pole wheel and impeller are meticulously balanced.
