ADVANTAGES OF ELECTRONIC IGNITION
Specifically developed for converting contact-controlled engines to maintenance-free electronic ignition.
After conversion, the previously weak 6-volt electrical system becomes a powerful 12-volt lighting system. The previously self-regulating electrics are converted to reliable and bulb-friendly regulator control (e.g., with BGM6690). The high-quality wiring ensures safe transmission of the high light and ignition power. Thanks to its strong wattage, it already provides excellent light output at idle, which does not drop even when indicators or additional power consumers are used. Maintenance work, as required with contact ignitions, is eliminated.

BGM has reworked the proven BGM PRO base plate and made it even better.
Special attention was paid to the high quality of the coils and the pickup.
A special feature is the cord already attached to the cable harness, which allows the cable harness to be easily pulled through the cable channel in the engine housing.
The base plate also now features precise degree scaling for easier adjustment.
Compared to conventional electronic ignition, the BGM PRO HP V2.5 base plate has specially combined coil windings.
This significantly improves the efficiency of the alternator, offering a high light output of 120W.
Unlike a Vespa PX base plate, the BGM PRO HP has a longer and differently routed cable harness to allow perfect installation on older vehicles. It also has an adapted base plate contour, making it perfectly suited for engines before 1977 (with a larger shaft seal seat than PX).
NOTE: The BGM pickup has a nominal resistance of 100 Ohm (+/- 10 Ohm)

CONVERTING TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION
When converting from a contact ignition system to this base plate, a different flywheel, a voltage regulator, and a CDI are required.
Any old standard voltage regulator, as well as the standard ignition coil, is no longer needed.
With the BGM voltage regulator BGM6690, a battery (12V required) can optionally be charged while driving. The old wiring harness can still be used, but the previously separate circuits must be merged, as the voltage regulator now only has one output for the entire power supply. Conversion is easier with one of our conversion wiring harnesses (e.g., 9077011).
Everything required for this is available individually or as a set.

PLEASE NOTE
The alignment of the crankshaft in the engine housing, and thus the position of the flywheel, is much more variable in older large frame engines (identifiable by equal-sized crankshaft bearings of 25x62x12mm) compared to later PX engines.
The crankshaft bearings are not fixed in the engine housing by a snap ring but sit only with a slight press fit in the housing. Due to various tolerances (e.g., the width of the shaft seals, worn bearing seats, orientation of the cone on the crankshaft), significant deviations from the originally intended positioning of the shaft in the crankcase can occur. Proper operation of the ignition requires precise alignment of the flywheel with the ignition base plate. Otherwise, the trigger area in the flywheel does not run parallel to the pickup, which can lead to ignition failures. If the ignition does not produce a spark, the error is usually found here. For easy correction, we offer spacer plates (BGM8000S05) for the pickup on the ignition base plate, allowing the correct distance to be restored easily.
