The AF Clo5e Ratio 5-speed transmission for Lambretta uses the proven gradation of the AF Close Ratio 4-speed transmission. As 5 speed, the gradation of the 4 speed of the classic Pacemaker transmission with 19/35 has been added.

  • 2 gear: 13/41

  • 3 gear: 16/38

  • 4 gear: 18/36

  • 5 gear: 19/35 (alternatively 19/34)



SPORTTOURER
With an 18/46 sprocket/wheel combination as well as the 4 gear with 35 teeth, a relatively long overall reduction of 4.71 is achieved (coincidentally exactly that of a standard Vespa PX200). So you are at 6000rpm in 4 gear at a little over 90km/h. If you shift into the fifth gear the speed drops only by 500 rpm to 5500 rpm. Here e.g. a BGM RT225 engine with Clubman exhaust already has its full torque and pulls the fifth gear through (7500rpm = 125km/h).

In general the narrow gear ratio offers the big advantage that you, even with a rather pointed engine characteristic, do not fall out of the usable power band. So the tractive power at the rear wheel remains on a high level and the engine reaches a high final speed due to the additional gear and the absolutely seen quite long reduction ratio. Even in the fourth gear more than 100km/h are already easily possible.

CRUISING
If you don't need or don't want such a narrow gradation between 4 and 5 gears, you can alternatively use the longer 5 gear with 34 teeth. In combination with a slightly shorter 17/46 you can reach a total reduction of 4.84. This makes the vehicle more agile in the lower gears without losing much of its top speed in direct comparison. A nice solution for relaxed touring with lots of luggage and/or two-person operation. In fourth gear you can still cram up every hill and still have one gear left for the highway or flat country road.
