High-quality wheel axle which is absolutely dimensionally accurate* compared to many other axles offered on the market. With the axle offered here the wheel is perfectly guided again. The bearing surfaces are hardened as in the original, a long life span thus guaranteed.
SINGLE SIDE LOADING
The single-sided suspended front wheel of the Vespa causes an asymmetrical distribution of force on the front wheel bearing in the brake drum. This means that the needle bearing of the brake drum, which is further away from the wheel centre, is subjected to a greater load than the relatively central ball bearing. If the bearing is defective, this results in a very undifferentiated driving behaviour.
CHECK THE BEARING
The bearing can be checked by simply tilting the unloaded front wheel back and forth. If the wheel has play, the two bearings of the brake drum should be replaced in any case. This can be carried out with the bearing set offered by us together with tools without problems in our own workshop/garage.
Check the wheel axle
That the needle bearing runs directly on the surface of the front wheel axle, this should also be checked. Frequently, if for example not regularly (approx. every 4000km) re-greased, it has run in on the bearing tread. This means that the wheel would have clearance again even with new bearings, a no-go for the next TÜV inspection. Fortunately you don't need a new fork if the front wheel axle is defective. This can be pressed out and a new one pressed in again very easily.
CHANGE OF THE FRONT WHEEL AXLE
For this purpose a hydraulic press is advantageous which almost every metalworking company or workshop has. The front wheel axle is simply pressed out of the fork from the long side. The breakaway torque is rarely higher than 4 tons. The new axle can simply be pressed in again with the long side first, an orientation or alignment is not necessary (except that it is of course inserted straight into the hole to avoid tilting during the pressing process).
UPGRADE
A tip for an improved front wheel bearing is our conversion set for extra wide bearings. The significantly increased bearing surface increases the durability enormously.

*Many reproduction axles have the problem that the diameter of the bearing surface is too small. A change of the wheel axle would not solve the problem of too much play in the bearing.
