The BGM PRO pole wheel is a perfect replica of the original PX200 pole wheel. This has large curved blades for high fan performance, ideal for large cast iron cylinders such as the Polini 210.
The BGM PRO Touring Polrad is with 1.9 kilograms whopping 1000 grams lighter than its original Piaggio counterpart. This makes it very nice and agile to ride when accelerating, but the engine retains its superior elasticity.
It can be used as a 1:1 replacement for the original Piaggio PX200 pole wheel. Of course it can also be used on the engines with smaller displacements (80-190ccm).
FEATURES
very high fan power, ideal for thermally highly loaded engines (grey cast iron cylinders / hitch operation / continuous load highway)
1900 grams = up to 35% lighter than an original pole wheel (Piaggio without Elestart 2800-3200grams)
High ignition timing accuracy
Very good concentricity
Balanced ex works
Good magnetization
High quality riveted like original from factory
Can be used on engines with 80-200cc (and more)
WEIGHT
At 1900 grams, the BGM8225RT (T for Touring) is 1000 grams lighter than the original pole wheel on PX models. It offers the ideal combination of sufficient flywheel mass for a powerful starting torque and a weight reduction for a lively revving of the engine including better acceleration. Compared to the very heavy pole wheels of the older PX models (without Elestart) it offers a 35% lower flywheel mass.
POWER & COOLING
The cooling vanes are curved and have the largest surface area of all the pole wheels for the PX engines. Piaggio first introduced this wing profile on the legendary SS180 engines. This means that high fan performance is always guaranteed, even at low engine speeds. The high cooling capacity is ideal for thermally rather critical engines, such as a Polini 207 grey cast iron with SI24 carburetor that is to be moved at continuous full throttle over the highway or has to cope with a lot of load in sidecar operation.
ELESTART
The pole wheel has no ring gear for the electric starter. It can be installed and driven on all models (also electric starters), but the electric start function is then no longer given. For vehicles with Elestart we recommend our BGM8025RTE.
RECOMMENDATION
We recommend the BGM8225RT for all thermally heavily loaded engines or as a perfect replacement for the no longer available original Piaggio pole wheel. The less basic power the engine has (PX80/PX125) the more likely you should be on the heavier side with the flywheel weight. Very light pole wheels (under 1600 grams) usually do not offer any advantages here.
NOTE
Very old PX200 engines (up to 1982) often still have the first pole wheel generation (recognizable by the longitudinal oval inspection hole closed with a rubber, OE number: 167052). Here the labyrinth seal on the rear side in the profile was designed slightly different than on the later engines. In order to be able to mount the BGM pole wheel, which corresponds to the original Piaggio construction status of the pole wheel generation from 1982 (OE number: 167102, vehicles with turn signals), two small aluminum webs of the engine housing must be reduced in height.
