Description


Like the original cylinder, the 172cc Malossi is made of aluminium and has a highly wear-resistant GiNiSil ceramic coating. Together with the very stable piston the Malossi kit is therefore extremely durable and resilient.

The Malossi has already longer control angles (approx. 120°/176°) than the original cylinder, but in combination with the original exhaust it remains an absolute torque steamer, which delivers its full torque at just over 4500 rpm. Already at 4000 rpm it delivers 8NM more torque than the original cylinder. So it remains the unbeaten traffic light king. Full power is also available below 6000rpm, but you can turn the cylinder much further. Only at 7500 rpm the Malossi drops to below 12hp, the value that the original cylinder can deliver at maximum. Malossi indicates that the 172 can be driven with the original cylinder head. More recommendable is a modified original head, which is no longer produced.
Therefore a MMW cylinder head milled from the full head is the better alternative to allow a possible retrofit.

If the cylinder is simply put on the engine, ie no further revisions are made, the cylinder already reaches a full 16hp and over 20NM. To convert this power into speed, at least one clutch pinion with 22 teeth should be used. Alternatively there is also a special 23 tooth sprocket from DRT for the original 68 tooth primary gear.

Who wants to get more out of the Malossi can extend the crankshaft opening time. Malossi gives here a recommended opening angle at the inlet of 110° b.o.t. to 72° n.o.t. In combination with a bigger carburettor (TMX30, PWK28, PHBH28) this allows to get more power out of the Malossi. Especially in combination with a strong resonance exhaust the tuning of the carburettor is much easier than with the original SI24/24G carburettor.
A matching LTH BT5 or RZ MK II exhaust can be used.
