ATHENA 300 cylinders - Quality upgrade for HPE 300 engines
The Athena cylinder, Made in Italy, is based on quality and high-tech. Manufactured from aluminium, coated with ultra-hard Nicasil coating, it has significantly better gliding properties, a very long service life and a smoother running. Last but not least, the Athena cylinder is significantly lighter than its series counterpart. Piaggio chose grey cast iron as cylinder material for reasons of cost, among others. This is where Athena comes in, offering the finest racing engine technology for the production engine with its cylinder.

RUNNING HOLIDAY
This results from the similar materials used for pistons and cylinders, resulting in an identical expansion behavior in the warm-up process. The series cylinder made of grey cast iron is at a disadvantage here because grey cast iron and aluminium expand at different rates when heated. This is compensated for in the production engine by an increased cold-running clearance between cylinder and piston. Many HPE owners know the rattle of the cold engine with series production cylinders. Athena uses aluminium for both components, which means that the running clearance, which is important for the engine running smoothness, can be kept constantly low and the engine is already running quietly even when cold.
LIFE LIFE
The material used as well as the tighter tolerances help to significantly increase the service life. If the engine is also to be reworked (head, camshaft, compression), the Athena cylinder is our absolute recommendation. The better sliding properties of the coating are especially important under high loads.

For the adjustment of the valve clearance (inlet = 0.10mm, outlet = 0.15mm) our feeler gauge set is ideal (1800013)
The coolant should always be replaced completely to avoid mixing the wrong coolants (they could flocculate). We recommend a refill with MotoCool Organic from Motul (3331241)
