In order to have a maximum possible cross section, a new type of shaft has been designed. The so called bell shaft (or mushroom shaft) offers
CONVERSION Shaft PX200 => PX125/150
The shaft shown here is based on the version for the PX200 Therefore it has a 5mm longer connecting rod than usual for the 125-150cc engines. Also the piston pin boss with Ø16mm diameter is 1mm bigger (series 125-150cc = Ø15mm). The longer connecting rod reduces the forces on the piston skirt due to the better connecting rod ratio. Additionally the pre-compression is reduced. Both are beneficial for smooth running and power output.
MODIFICATIONS
To allow the crankshaft to be used in 125-150cc engines (PX80 also fits with corresponding cylinder of the 125-150cc class) a conversion bearing for the piston pin and a 5mm thick foot spacer without cut-outs for the transfer ports are included. This crankshaft is therefore intended for ambitious screwdrivers, who want to increase the performance of their engine again massively and who have fun with modifications (e.g. the overflow cutouts in the spacer must be adapted to the respective cylinder).
The shaft has no loss of stability compared to a conventionally shaped shaft despite its unusual shape for Vespa riders. If you have ever looked at a Ducati crankshaft, you may have guessed that this design is not only well thought out but also makes sense for a high performance engine.
In combination with the increased stroke of 3mm, the result is a crankshaft that is perfectly suited to the demands of an extremely powerful PX engine.
With a large diaphragm intake manifold and a carburetor from 28mm to 38mm, an engine with the right cylinder/exhaust selection can easily deliver over 35hp to the rear wheel.
Naturally, you can also build beautiful touring engines with such a bell shaft. The advantage is then here in a large speed range and the better torque curve already in the speed cellar by the longer stroke, or the larger displacement.
The very low-vibration running is there only the 'delicacy' on top of it...
