Original description text by Malossi:
The Vespa crankshaft is one of the most sensitive and fundamental components of this type of power unit, since it must both control the movements of the connecting rod and the piston and regulate the intake by means of the timing regulator.
All Malossi crankshafts for Vespa are made of hardened and vacuum-melted steel of aeronautical quality, a material that is highly resistant to scratches, guaranteed by the certifications required by strict Malossi specifications. The connecting rod with "viper head" has a sophisticated design to support maximum weight and guarantee the required strength.
Not even the smallest detail has been ignored. Malossi's technicians have indeed been able to increase the resistance considerably by intervening on the thread of the axle on the drive side of the crankshaft, using a finer thread. The position of the wrench has also been redesigned both in size and shape to avoid damaging the thread and contribute to the resistance with a modern solution. The crankshafts are fitted with special nuts that are much more resistant, in order to benefit from the highest resistance offered by the tightest thread.
shaft for rotary valve housings.
In the rotary valve engine version, the intake phase takes place inside the back, in the structure with circular mass itself, which has a remarkable inward weld and at the same time a smooth external profile. This innovative choice has made it possible to obtain a unique shape, capable of achieving extremely effective fluid dynamics.
The welds considered in this way have always been one of the most delicate points of the Vespa crankshafts, if the right balance is to be achieved. Malossi has solved this problem by inserting inserts made of tungsten in the engine shaft, which act as counterweights to increase the stability of the shaft itself.
These products are designed exclusively for racing and for the racetracks, in accordance with the regulations of the relevant sports authorities. We decline all responsibility for any misuse.
